Emily Lua Lua
Community Organizer in Philadelphia
Emily Lua-Lua, better known as Lua, is a first-generation daughter of Mexican Immigrants. Though her parent's immigration story is not her own, she was inspired by their lives and experiences and knew from a young age that she wanted to aid and serve those who had similar experiences so that they would not have to face the same hardships her family did. She attended Susquehanna University to pursue a degree in Political Science & History. There she served as Vice President & President of the Association of Latinx & Allied Students (ALAS) and was a vocal seat holder in the Susquehanna University Diversity Council, where she represented the Latinx & Hispanic community. Lua successfully organized and mobilized students, staff, and community members for Black Lives Matter and DACA demonstrations, immigration & DACA reform phonebanks, and led Latin American History & Immigration informational sessions in her hometown and the university town. Her efforts quickly made her recognized local activist in both her communities. Lua joined MRPA in July of 2022, where she hopes to continue organizing and mobilizing the people of Philadelphia and empowering the community's youth as a Community Organizer.
